Axiom's deeply rooted product handling background regularly leads the company into projects that require some form of product labelling. Typically customers want to:

• Label products or cartons with dynamically printed labels, this can be small product information labels, right up to carrier specific shipping labels.
• Label products with pre-printed marketing labels.

In 1999 as part of a project there was a requirement to print and apply carrier specific labels. Axiom could have purchased the print and apply labelling machines from one of many existing vendors, but the company saw there was an opportunity to develop a new breed of machine. We also found that many of our competitors did not offer the out of hours support structures that are required in the logistics industry, this would result in us supporting a machine we knew little about.

The design criteria was to engineer the machine to a minimum cost whilst maintaining all of the functions our competitors machines have.

As a result of this period of development the Axiom Series 3000 print and apply machine was developed. At the heart of the machine is an industry standard Sato print engine, the unwind and rewind assemblies and the apply head are all manufactured by Axiom.

Since then the machine has been used in many areas of industry, from carton labelling at fairly low speeds to high speed media labelling.
